We all have secrets that we keep, even from those closest to us. And it’s fine if the secrets aren’t substantial. However, some people keep such secrets that when they are disclosed, everyone is in in trouble.
Story 1
When I was five, my mother refused to get out of bed and kept telling me she was sick. Finally, my stepfather took her to the hospital, where she spent over a month. I felt it was nice that her hospital allowed her to do arts and crafts all the time; additionally, she improved and began doing arts and crafts with me when she returned home.
I recall telling her that I wanted to go to the hospital and draw all day. She sat me down and told me that she hoped I never got sick like she did, but if I did, there was nothing wrong with requiring help to get better, even if it meant going elsewhere for a short time.
It wasn’t until I was about 13 that I learned the hospital she’d gone to was a mental health hospital, and I realized I didn’t want to get out of bed myself. I recently learned that 20 years ago, my brother became a financial counselor and managed my father’s investment money. He lost my father’s whole 401(k), was fired from his job, and has been on the run ever since.

My father, especially, attempted to figure things out. He was constantly suspicious that it had been a family friend. It was by far the best gift of the year, and we played it constantly throughout our youth.
