There are six diseases that can be contracted through kissing, despite it being a therapeutic activity for a person’s mental and emotional well-being:
1. Gum disease
Even if gum disease is not spread through kissing, the bad bacteria that cause the disease can. Therefore, flossing and brushing are your best buds.
2. Infectious mononucleosis
According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common name for this condition is “Kissing Disease,” and its main symptom is fatigue, which can occasionally lead to enlarged lymph nodes and a sore throat.
3. Meningitis
It is actually possible to catch it from someone who is in close contact with someone who already has it, and this includes kissing. Bacterial meningitis is usually spread through kissing. Symptoms of this disease include stiff neck, fever and headache.
4. Syphilis
This is another disease that can be spread through physical contact, such as kissing and sexual activities. Syphilis can also cause sores in your mouth. But this is an infection that can be controlled with the help of antibiotics.
5. Herpes
Herpes can be transmitted through kissing and can end up giving you cold sores in and around your mouth.
6. Respiratory viruses
This refers to cold, flu, and measles. These can infect your body, even if you only share one person’s belongings or the same room. But the likelihood of catching this virus increases after you kiss.
