For my son’s 7th birthday, my MIL planned a big dinner with 12 guests and told me she would prepare non-meat options for me (I’m vegetarian).
At the dinner, there was plenty of food, but only cheese cubes and bread for me. She smirked and said in front of all the guests, “Isn’t this what you eat anyway?”
When I heard her words, I got so furious. I made my son a sign, took his hand and left the party. My husband stayed there.
Later, he texted me, declaring, “Don’t expect me to come home tonight. You disrespected my mom and ruined our son’s birthday for him.” He stayed over at his mom’s place and then came home the next day, but it’s been a week, and we’re still avoiding each other.
I am convinced that what I did was right because I felt very disrespected.
She could have simply told me to bring my own food, but she wanted to ridicule me in front of all the guests because she always mocked me for being a vegetarian, which is something I have been since I was 12. What do you think I should do?
