Story 1
My mother gave up all parental rights to my father and abandoned us 8 months after I was born. He claimed she never asked about me. I haven’t met or spoken with her.
I work at a large legal firm and noticed her name scheduled for an appointment a year ago. I was surprised when she walked in and informed me her name without greeting or making eye contact before heading to the reception area. I was courteous to her and offered if she needed coffee or tea, but she refused. She was a tiny and frail woman; based on childhood images, I had envisioned her to be taller and stronger.
After she departed, I went to the lawyer’s office and reviewed her file. She was divorcing her third husband and wanted a good lawyer to obtain a large portion of his money, which was in the millions. I was also astonished to learn she has two young girls with him. Seeing her devastated me even more, especially because she didn’t remember me.
It simply verified what my father had told me: she had moved on and forgotten about me.
Story 2
I was in love with my closest friend for a long time, but something was always getting in the way, whether it was my SO or his. We dated once, but it didn’t go well.
I was going to a party with a common buddy, and he informed me that my closest friend was going to propose to this girl I couldn’t stand that night. He informed me where he was going to propose, so I ran over to stop him—to declare my love for him, you know how it goes.
When I arrived, he had everything set up: candles, rose petals, the New York skyline—anything that would melt a girl’s heart. I picked up a piece of paper he had placed on the ground, read it, and then glanced up to see him down on one knee, proposing to ME. © IZ3820 | Reddit
Story 3
Growing up, my brothers and I suspected that our father was gαу. We’d even make jokes about it on occasion. When I was a teenager, my mother asked me how I thought about gαу people in general and how I would react if someone I knew was homosexual. I rolled my eyes and exclaimed, “We know Dad’s gay!” She looked astonished for a second before saying, “No, I am!”
My mind was blown—I would never have known, yet we had always referred to her as “Mom.” After the shock went off (and I hugged her), I inquired about Dad again. She claimed she couldn’t speak for him. He came out a few months later. © Unknown author/Reddit
Story 4
My brother, Steve, had a fiancée called Samantha, and they have a son together. Samantha began locking her phone, returning home later, and exhibiting all of the typical indications of a cheater.
She announced one weekend that she would be attending a work function around 250 miles away and would be staying in a motel. My brother Steve became suspicious and contacted the motel room late at night, approximately 1 a.m. A person responded…it was our other brother. © Unknown author/Reddit
Story 5
I fell in love in high school and became pregnant my senior year. After considerable consideration and counseling, we chose to place our son in an open adoption with a local family. We became close to the family and spend time with them several times a year.
After five years of dating and two years of living together, I married my high school love in front of our birth son and his family. Life couldn’t be sweeter!
Plot twist: We’ve been married for 11 and a half years and battling with secondary infertility for the past six and a half. I’m very confident we can’t have any more biological children. © TheGeeksWife | Reddit
Story 6
I got a soap opera storyline twist. One of my closest friends began dating a man who claimed to be from South Africa. We discovered six months later that he was not South African.
He had fabricated an accent and an entire background. He was American and had grown up just a few towns away. She stayed with him for a while. © Melishka/ Reddit
Story 7
I dated a girl for four years, and she essentially lived with me. I ended up helping her build a million-dollar waterfront home (she was a millionaire, and I did all the plumbing). The week I finished her house, Hurricane Sandy struck. When the storm cleared, she dumped me. Two weeks later, I learned she had a new boyfriend.
It turned out she had been seeing someone behind my back for years and had many abortions because she had no idea who the father was. So all of our discussion about living together and having children turned out to be false promises. © Unknown author/Reddit
Story 8
Back in seventh school, I made a friend who attended two of my classes. I was talking to him one day during lunch, when I noticed him sitting at another table in the cafeteria. I was thinking, “What the heck?” When I looked around, I saw him sitting at my table.
It turns out he had a twin, so I took one lesson with him and another with his sibling. I didn’t find out for over two weeks. © SonOfTheNorthe/Reddit
Story 9
I was happily engaged to a beautiful person until he went to OCS this summer, was hurt, returned home early, and changed. He came back as a different person. While he was away, I became very close to a classmate of mine. I was at home recovering from jaw surgery, and he spoke to me all day.
He became my best buddy, but I never considered him attractive. After all, I was happy to be engaged. To make a long story short, my fiancé and I grew apart, split up, and I married my closest friend last month. I never saw it coming. We scarcely knew each other until May. © Temple_Noble / Reddit

On my first day of university in a new place, I met a terrific guy. We had the same dark sense of humor and were instant friends. Months later, my father ᴅɪᴇᴅ unexpectedly. I went home to see my family and missed a lot of university.
After the ғᴜɴᴇʀᴀʟ, I was seated with my entire extended family when I received a call from my friend. I informed him that I had been absent due to a loss in the family. He quickly began asking a lot of questions—who had ᴅɪᴇᴅ, if it was my father, and what his name was. I was perplexed and asked him what was going on.
It turned out his parents had attended my father’s ғᴜɴᴇʀᴀʟ. He was a cousin I didn’t realize I had. It was a great moment of connection in an otherwise dismal period. It felt like something from a novel. © Dr. Pepperofevil / Reddit

I had been working for an hour when my phone rang—it was from the job I had recently started. I responded, and the person on the phone replied, “You are aware today is your first day?”
