The 1987 romance dance film “Dirty Dancing” has become a cult classic, prompting legions of admirers to learn choreography and imitate the iconic lift.
The film stars Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) and Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey). The plot revolves around a young woman who falls for a dancing instructor while on vacation.
As with any film, “Dirty Dancing” contains flaws and scenes that were removed from the final cut. Many of these moments are never revealed to the public, making their absence a source of wonder for the audience. Typically, only special customers are permitted to view these unique scenes.
For example, in this deleted clip, Johnny Castle teaches Frances Houseman some dancing techniques for their Sheldrake performance. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey seem completely in character.
The casting director, Emile Ardolino, insisted on allowing the performers to dance themselves.
Interestingly, Grey got along better with Swayze than with the other actors considered for the job.
