On VE Day, Princess Kate gave a touching four-word instruction to her children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — while they watched the Red Arrows flypast from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The Wales family joined the rest of the Royal Family in London to mark the beginning of the weekly celebrations commemorating the end of the Second World War, and their appearance quickly drew widespread attention and admiration from royal watchers.
The family first attended a military procession in central London before stepping onto the palace balcony to witness the highly anticipated Red Arrows aerial display.
As the aircraft approached, lip reader Nicola Hickling told Hello! magazine that Princess Kate turned to her children and gently instructed, “Eyes to the sky.”
She also took a moment to explain the coming spectacle to her youngest son, Prince Louis, saying, “When the flypast comes, you will see it smoke blue, white, and red.”
Prince Louis, known for his spirited and often amusing public behavior, excitedly pointed out one of the aircraft, reportedly exclaiming,
“Look at the back/black one, they have lots of tanks.” As in previous appearances, Louis brought lighthearted moments to the formal event with his playful gestures and expressions.
During the ceremony, the young prince was seen pulling one of his classic faces by sticking out his tongue, much to the delight of the crowd and viewers online. He also grabbed hold of his father, Prince William’s golden aiguillettes — the ceremonial braided cords on his RAF uniform — and touched his father’s shoulder with curiosity.
Adding more charm to the event, Louis was observed holding his hands out with his palms facing up, as if checking for raindrops, which did eventually fall.
At another moment, he imitated his older brother, Prince George, by brushing his own hair back, causing many fans to smile at the sweet sibling moment.
Once again, Prince Louis managed to capture the spotlight, reminding many why he has become such a fan favorite. His candid, unfiltered reactions brought warmth and humor to a solemn occasion, while Princess Kate’s calm and nurturing presence reflected her growing role within the Royal Family.
