The Circus Adoption
A husband and wife who performed together in a traveling circus decided it was finally time to adopt a child.
At the adoption agency, the social workers weren’t entirely convinced.
“Life in a circus isn’t exactly what we’d call a typical family environment,” one of them said.
The couple smiled.
They pulled out photos of their enormous motorhome. It was spotless, beautifully furnished, and even had a bright, cheerful nursery waiting for a child.
The social workers looked impressed.
“What about school?” one asked.
“We’ve already hired a full-time tutor,” the husband replied. “Math, science, languages, music, computers—the child will have an excellent education.”
“And who will care for the child while you’re performing?”
“Our nanny is a licensed childcare specialist,” the wife answered. “She’s been caring for children for over fifteen years.”
The social workers exchanged approving smiles.
Satisfied at last, one of them asked,
“So… what age child are you hoping to adopt?”
The husband shrugged.
“Honestly, we’re not too picky.”
“As long as the little one can still fit into the grand finale.”
He smiled.
“…the cannon.”
