Though eBooks and audiobooks have grown in popularity over the last few years, that can’t beat our love for print.
A bookshelf is a necessity for many people. A bookshelf ends up being the main decor piece in a room. Take Jess and Sinclair Breen from Australia, the couple who made an insanely impressive DIY custom bookcase for their children.
The couple been married for more than a decade now and they live in Australia. The two have two beautiful sons, who are their main inspiration for said project.
Sinclair is the director of SCP Constructions – a construction company specifically tailored to the needs of building and renovating residential homes, according to the Facebook page of S. C. P. Constructions. So, making a bookcase was a relatively easy feat for them, but the stunning bookcase made it to the internet.
Needless to say, it went viral and the internet went crazy.
The couple spent 16 hours crafting this bookshelf. One of the best parts of the process is that the couple let their kids join them in building.
A ton of carefully cut out boards, predrilled by a cabinet maker, were lined up and screwed together to make each box that formed the final design. In case you were wondering, the couple used enough boards to make a total of 36 boxes. Talk about a ton of book space!
Arranging the boxes on a large piece of medium-density fiberboard is what allowed this gorgeous piece of book-shelving art to come together. Without it, they wouldn’t have been able to hang it!
Their wall didn’t have the right framing to support the large structure. The illusion of a wall is what results from this. The boxes were attached, and the bookcase was born.
I don’t know about you, but I am so jealous of this couple’s kids! I mean, look at it! If you have a large book collection, then you probably know how I feel.
One of the reasons the couple began the project is because this is part of a qualifying campaign for a reality TV show called The Block in Australia.
The Block is a show about couples who compete in home renovation to see who can sell a house for the highest price.
But the other reason is that this is a perfect way to celebrate their 11th Anniversary.
