In many cultures of the world, being unmarried at thirty is an unspeakable thing, but little do people know the merits that come with taking your time before settling down.
Statistics now show that the average thirty-year-old is unmarried, but what exactly is the joy of marrying late? Below are 7 advantages of getting married late in life.
1. You have time to DISCOVER yourself.
The emphasis is on “discovery” because a lot of people go through life not knowing who they really are, the more you wait before getting married the more you’re likely to discover yourself, your ideal career and generally the type of life you want.
2. Our thoughts and feelings change as we get older.
What I liked and wanted when I was 19 was very different from what I liked in my mid-twenties. People change, and it’s okay to grow and change.
3. You have time to be “free”.
Make decisions without real consequences. Travel. You can even afford to live from alert to alert without any sense of responsibility. Why do you think there’s the term “responsible married man/woman”? You can buy anything with your last dime. Sleep over at your friends house 3 times a week…you no send anybody. Go on soun, explore!
4. You become more mature.
Growing up isn’t just about age. As you get older, you gain more experience, and that helps you handle life better. You become more realistic in your expectations, understanding that marriage is about more than just taking pictures and having fun.
5. You can focus on building your future.
Before getting married, you can concentrate on your career or even start a business. Even if things don’t go perfectly, you can try again. This is possible because of the freedom you have.
6. You know what you want.
You’ve had time to figure yourself out, to know what you like and what you don’t. You understand your own needs and preferences in a relationship.
7. You appreciate marriage more.
When you do eventually get married, you’ll value it even more because you’ll remember all the times you celebrated with friends at their weddings. You’ll feel content knowing you made the most of your single years.
These are just some of the benefits of getting married later. If you’re still single, enjoy this time and appreciate every stage of your life. If you got married later, feel free to share your experiences in the comments.
