When I was 10, my oldest brother “borrowed” Grandma’s Snickers bar from the freezer.
Later, Grandma walked into the kitchen and asked,
“Alright… which one of y’all ate my candy?”
My four brothers and I stayed completely silent.
We knew exactly who did it, but we were loyal to our brother.
Grandma looked at all of us and said,
“Fine. If nobody’s gonna tell me, I’m gonna whoop everybody until I find the guilty one!”
We thought she was joking.
She was not.
Grandma grabbed a switch and suddenly the entire family became extremely cooperative.
After that day, I decided loyalty had its limits.
I became Grandma’s little secret agent.
Years later, my brother Chris said,
“I’m gonna get another popsicle after Grandma goes to bed.”
I immediately replied,
“Grandma… we need to talk.”
Some families have secrets.
Our family had witnesses.
