Kind Police

Many first responders go out of their way to do a great job. Nurses, firefighters, and police officers often exceed the limits when it comes to helping others. While they all do an amazing job, it is great to hear the story of someone going above and beyond. That was the case for this story.

The kindness of a rookie police officer in Savannah, captured on camera in a still photograph, is spreading on Facebook, with around 3,000 likes and counting. The photo shows a rookie officer comforting a 16-month old toddler found walking alone on the street.

James was called to the scene a couple of years ago. Concerned citizens had found a small boy, just 16-months-old, wandering around on the cold streets in May of 2016. He was all by himself, so the local police were called to take care of him. When they came, they took him right to a hospital to give him a thorough exam.

During the physical examination, the boy became worried and scared. James was there to comfort the boy to make him feel more secure. He picked the boy up and comforted him as much as he could. He later told KTLA 5 News that it was only human instinct to pick him up and comfort him. He said that while the hospital staff were trying very hard to take care of him, the boy was still scared and crying.

According to James, within minutes the boy was asleep on his chest. That amazing moment was captured for the whole world to see. After it was posted on the police department’s Facebook page, it went viral. More than 10,000 people have liked this beautiful photo.

Hurst says he does not believe he’s special in his actions because he says all of Savannah’s police force are trained to put the theories of community-oriented policing into practice. ” It’s what we do, every single day, not just me, but the 600 officers that are on this department.” said Hurst.
