After being accused of “copying” Kate Middleton after online critics saw what they perceived to be a “new” feature in her appearance, Meghan Markle has been vehemently defended by her admirers.
The One805Live! event in Santa Barbara, California, which benefits first responders, featured a surprise appearance by Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, over the weekend of September 20.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the stage as Harry gave Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig an award at the event, which raises money for vital equipment and mental health initiatives for the county’s first responders.
People quickly took to social media to express their opinions about Meghan’s hairstyle during the event, with many saying she had lightened it in an attempt to “copy” the Princess of Wales. She recently changed her distinctive rich brunette hairstyle to a more blonder one, as royal aficionados are undoubtedly aware.
One X user commented: “They are saying Meghan lightened her hair to copy Kate.”
“Looks like she’s sporting a Catherine WIG now,” chimed in a second, referring to the unsubstantiated claims that Kate has recently been donning wigs during royal appearances.
It’s crucial to note, however, that such speculation is exactly that – speculative.
A third added: “Meghan Markle, you’re so predictable. Why can’t you just be yourself and stop trying to emulate the Princess of Wales by lightening your hair colour? It’s so sad.”
“Of course she got highlights,” laughed a fourth.
Many others, however, who weren’t on board the absolutely tireless anti-Meghan Markle brigade, indicated that the Netflix star and mother-of-two has been seen with such locks for ‘months’ now and that any apparent new change was simply down to the sun and stage lighting.
“‘Meghan brightened her hair’ when this is her from months ago?? You guys are so unserious,” called out a fourth.
A fifth interjected: “Did they not see photos of Meghan while she was married to Trevor? Her hair was AUBURN.”
“She actually didn’t lighten her hair. It’s the stage & sun lighting. If you look at the video with her and Harry walking away, you will see that her hair is very dark,” mentioned another.
And a final X user similarly echoed: “And in the video of her walking, she clearly has her dark locks, they’re desperate.”
