My Daughter Abandoned Me at My Weakest — Suddenly She Wants to Reconnect

Many years ago, I was diagnosed with a grave illness. My only daughter, then 23, turned her back on me and stopped visiting, saying, “I’m too busy building a life.”

I disowned her. It took me almost five years to recover, and as soon as I did, I removed her from my will.

Now her 16-year-old daughter, who never asked about me or searched for me, has appeared out of the blue. In tears, she said, “Mom had been struggling without you, and I want you two to reconnect.”

When I asked her what took her so long, to my horror she said that her mother was “embarrassed to confront me and couldn’t find the courage.”

After listening to my granddaughter, I understood that they were struggling financially, and I am highly suspicious that this is the only reason why her daughter is trying to reconnect now, after all these years.

I am lost, and even though I’d like to at least give my only grandchild a chance, I fear that she is as manipulative as her mother and that all she is after is my money.

What should I do?
