When Meghan became a member of the Royal Family, she and William became quick friends. Unfortunately, the same could not be true of Meghan and Kate Middleton, which understandably impacted William.
Then, when Meghan and Harry departed the Royal Family, the former’s relationship with Prince William ended totally. However, even when the Sussexes were still working royals, it has been suggested that not all was as it appeared. One expert has even claimed that William made a strong stance against Meghan, blasting her in a speech of only 11 words.
The rivalry did not end with Prince Harry and Prince William; Meghan’s relationship with the royals also deteriorated. Its decline began before Harry and Meghan left the Royal Family and had a significant impact on Meghan and William’s relationship.
While the future king and Meghan, a former television star from the hit show Suits, had a solid relationship at first. Even yet, William wasn’t certain that his brother was thinking clearly.
Meghan Markle relationship with Prince William
William first looked to like Meghan, but he was also anxious. Harry and Meghan’s romance progressed rapidly after a friend introduced them on a blind date.
William wanted to talk to his younger brother about Meghan approximately a year before their wedding, and a year after they started dating. According to authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand’s book Finding Freedom, branded “Pro-Sussex,” William is reported to have encouraged his brother, “Don’t feel you need to rush this,” and “Take as much time as you need to get to know this girl.”
Scobie and Durand went on to explain that Harry was “pissed off” that William had requested him to take things gently, and that the phrase “the girl” bothered him.
Prince William “desperately” wanted Meghan Markle to be happy
However, William chose to keep his feelings to himself. Why? He “desperately wanted her to be happy and appreciated the huge adjustment of entering the Royal Family,” according to the insider.
Although there may have been tensions behind the scenes before Harry’s marriage to Meghan, the general public was unaware of them. However, just months before the Sussexes married at St George’s Chapel in 2018, one royal expert thinks that William may have made a dig at his soon-to-be sister-in-law during a speech.
Prince William took a ‘swipe’ at Meghan Markle at royal event, expert claims
“We later learned from Prince Harry’s book Spare that there had been an awkward moment backstage when Meghan had asked to borrow Katherine’s lip gloss. He describes how Katherine was taken aback by this, but eventually found some and grimaced when Megan squeezed some out,” Eden said on the Royal Confidential Podcast.
He went on to explain how William appeared to take a jab at Meghan during the address, as the Duchess highlighted female empowerment with a “bold public endorsement” of the Me Too and Times Up initiatives.
“Honourable causes but a clear potential clash with politicians, which is the last thing the Royal Family wants,” Richard Eden continued. “You do wonder if a line in William’s speech, where he said, ‘The task for us would not be to reinvent the wheel,’ could have been aimed at his soon-to-be sister-in-law.”
Prince William issued war:ning
Today, Harry and Meghan are thousands of miles away from the Royal Family. However, this does not diminish their status as stars wherever they travel. At the same time, the royal family has struggled in recent months due to the absences of King Charles and Kate Middleton, as well as Queen Camilla’s recent health difficulties.
Tessa Dunlop, a royal historian and researcher, has cautioned Prince William that the Sussexes may pose a substantial threat as a result. The royal adviser described the Sussexes as “instinctively glamorous with bundles of razzmatazz,” advising William to “beware.”
Prince Harry to return to the UK without Meghan Markle
It is not an unreasonable assumption to believe that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will not return to the royal family anytime soon. Their relationship with the Royal Family is shattered, and based on what they’ve revealed, it’s inconceivable to envision Prince William ever forgiving his brother for his actions.
While Harry has been said to be open to returning to the UK, with some suggesting that he has even looked into a ‘permanent home’ in his native country, Meghan appears to be less enthusiastic.

Nonetheless, the Sussexes appear to be considering Donald Trump’s threat to deport Harry if it is discovered that he lied on his visa application. The couple has purchased a new home in Portugal, which may be called a “backup plan” in case Trump’s threats come true. Nonetheless, Harry and Meghan are resolved to remain in the United States.
