Sir Mick Jagger, 81, may be among the most popular rock stars in the world – meaning that he’s managed to become incredibly wealthy – but recently he’s seemed to suggest that he won’t be passing down his immense fortune to his children.
The Rolling Stones frontman has joined the music scene since the band first formed in London in 1962.
Since then, 31 studio albums, 122 singles, and 77 music videos have been released by the band. All of this has culminated in the group having sold more than 200 million records internationally, and being ranked the second greatest artist of all time by Billboard (behind The Beatles).
They’re also among the longest-running music groups ever – managing to stay together for a whopping 61 years!
So, naturally, it comes as no surprise that the band’s members have been able to rake in the cash… Jagger included.
However, that doesn’t mean his children will automatically become rich, as he told the Wall Street Journal in a recent interview.
According to the father-of-eight, he currently has no plans to sell the band’s post-1971 catalog – something that has become a trend among popular musicians lately. This process simply means that a musician sells ownership of the copyright in songs or recordings, or both, depending on the deal.
Entertainers like Katy Perry and even Bob Dylan have made the move to sell the rights to their music, resulting in multimillion dollar deals. Bob Dylan managed to rake in $300 million through selling his entire music catalog to Universal Music, and Dolly Parton has reportedly announced that she wishes to do to the same.
During his interview with Wall Street Journal, Jagger said that even if The Rolling Stones do sell their music catalog, he won’t be passing the money to his offspring. “The children don’t need $500m to live well. Come on,” he said.
Though, if a deal is made, Jagger would prefer that the money goes to charity. “You maybe do some good in the world,” he said.
In total, the ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want‘ singer has eight children with five women, ranging from ages six to 52. The eldest, 52-year-old Karis, was born in 1970 to Jagger and his then-partner Marsha Hunt.
Another daughter, 51-year-old Jade, was born during Jagger’s relationship with Bianca Jagger, to whom he was married from 1971-1978.
Actress Jerry Hall – who was Jagger’s partner between 1977 and 1999 – had four children with the musician, daughters Elizabeth, 39, and Georgia May, 31, as well as sons James, 38, and Gabriel, 25.
24-year-old Lucas, Jagger’s seventh child, was born while in a relationship with model Luciana Gimenez Morad. Then, In 2016, Jagger’s current girlfriend, choreographer and former ballerina Melanie Hamrick, had his youngest child, six-year-old Deveraux.
Phew… That’s is a rather large family, and there are definitely a lot of people to split a massive fortune between!
